Rested Vonn Favored In Downhill

11:00 AM PST - Alpine Skiing
Ellis Kunka and his Cornballers team should pick up a gold medal today in the Ladies' Downhill, thanks to the fortuitous recovery of American Lindsay Vonn.

Initially depressed about Vonn's injury, Kunka seemed strangely optimistic over the weekend. Other competitors including Da Nang Dynamos manager John Binz accused him of cloud seeding, causing rain to put off the event until today. More recently, noting Kunka's absence from Evidence this week, many theorized that he was at Whistler giving Vonn some last-minute tips.

Whatever shady tactics Ellis employed, I'm expecting them to pay off with an 8.3 point gold medal. Vonn is fully recovered and turned in the fastest training run of all the competitors.

Anja Pärson of Sweden (Adam Claus/Ice Lugers), a five time Olympic medalist who took bronze in this event at Turin, is my pick for silver. German Maria Riesch (undrafted), Vonn's closest friend in alpine, has been skiing well and won gold in the most recent World Cup event. I think she'll take the bronze.

Although the Alpine medals are not as valuable in terms of points, this event will determine the Cornballers' morale going forward. A win would arguably validate Kunka's questionable conduct, while a loss would obviously be devastating.
